Unit 7 On screen Lesson 2 Code of Conduct

Talk about code of conduct

Speak and read

  1. Work in pairs. Make a list of things you should not and shouldn’t do in these public places to respect other people-in a library, on a bus, at a movie.

In a library

  1. You should be quiet.
  2. You shouldn’t use your mobile phone.

On a bus

  1. You should give up your seat if someone needs it.
  2. You shouldn’t put your feet on the seats.

At a movie

  1. You should turn off your phone.
  2. You shouldn’t make noise.
  3. Read the text.
  4. What kind of text is it?
  5. Where and why would you see it?

Answer: The text is a notice. You’d see it in a movie theater lobby. It’s suggesting how people should behave in the movie theater to respect other people.

A Notice to Our Patrons

Welcome to the Scree One Multiplex. Please make yourself at home, But please remember that you are not alone at home. In order to make your visit a positive and magical experience for everyone, please take a moment to read this notice.

5 Things you must remember to do when you do when you go to the movies

Arrive unfashionably early

We all know that arriving fashionably late to social events gives people the impression that you’re an extremely busy person. Arriving late for a movie means you have to find a seat in the dark, making other people stand to let you pass and ruining the start of the movie for everyone. Make early the new fashion.

Keep the talking down

In our survey, over half of you chose “talking during the movie” as the most annoying habit of other moviegoers. We strongly believe that people who talk during a movie should be banned for life. So if you’re one of those irritating people who exchange comments, ask what’s going on, or predict what’s going to happen next, please keep talking to a minimum.

Switch to silent

In the real world, the average person looks at his or her phone 150 times a day. That’s once every 6.5 seconds of every waking hour. But this is not the real world. This is a fantasy world where you can forget about your digital life. Using a device is annoying to the people sitting behind you. And don’t even think of answering or making a call.

Watch your table manners

People often ask us why we sell popcorn and candy with noisy wrappers. The answer is simple-there aren’t any quiet snacks. So we need your help. Avoid situations in which you think, I shouldn’t have unwrapped a candy bar in that quiet scene. And please, you must not slurp your drink or rattle your ice.

Don’t make your feet the main feature

Finally, remember! Putting your feet on the seats, kicking the seat in front of you, taking off your shoes, throwing your litter on the floor. Do we need to state the obvious?

  1. What’s the tone of the notice? Give reasons for answer.

Answer: It’s humorous. Some of the headings are funny, and the text includes exaggerated and humorous situations and examples. It uses humor to get people to pay attention to a serious topic. It’s fun to read, so people read the whole text.

  1. Read the poster again. Check the statements that are true.

  1. The poster encourages to behave in the same way as at home.
  2. Moviegoers who arrive late are not allowed in the auditorium.
  3. People who talk during the movie will be banned from the theater.
  4. Digital devices should not be used during the screening.
  5. People are requested to eat and drink quietly.
  6. Patrons are encouraged to take off their shoes and relax.

  1. React

Work in pairs. Answer the questions.

  1. Do you think the theater notice is a good idea? Why or why not?
  2. Which of the five things do you do when you go to the movies?
