Intensive Science and Technology 5                                     Department of Science and Technology
Primary 5                                                                                    Time 20 Hours

Students are able to describe, explain, write and identify, compare, analyze, design the
experiments, use logical reasoning to solve problems, design and write programs, use the internet
to collect, evaluate, present the data about the structure and characteristics of living things
appropriate for the survival in each habitat; explain the relationship among living things, between
living things and non-living things, and among non-living things for the purpose of survival; identify the roles of living things as producers and consumers in the food chain; realize the values of environment on the survival of living things; explain the genetic characters which are transferred from parents to offspring of plants, animals, and humans.

Students are able to analyze the changes of in states of matter when the substances are
heated or cooled down; understand the dissolution of substances in water and the changes of
substances when the chemical reaction occurs by using empirical evidence; analyze and identify
the reversible and nonreversible change; find the net force gained from many paralleled forces
that affect the unmoved objects; write diagram presenting the forces affecting objects; use the
spring scale in measuring the forces affecting the objects; identify the effects of frictional forces
and write the diagram representing the frictional force affecting the changes of the motion in
objects and other paralleled forces affecting objects; explain the process of hearing sounds
through the medium; explain the characteristics and formation of high and low pitch, loud and
soft sound; propose the ways to avoid and reduce the sound pollution.

Students are able to compare the difference between the planets and stars; use the star
map to pinpoint position and direction of rising and falling of the constellations in the sky; explain the useful application of water sources; understand the circulation of water in the hydrological cycle; propose ways to use water wisely and save water; compare the process of cloud, fog, dew, and frost formation; compare the process of rain, snow and hail formation.
These can be done by performing scientific methods, exploring, observing, checking, data
collecting and data classifying. These are for the students to understand, present the outcomes,
make decisions, see the value of the knowledge applied in daily life and gain the scientific mind,
moral, ethic and appropriate value.

These can be done by learn how to solve the problem using logical reasoning; explain
working process; predict the result of simple problems; design and write simple program with
logical reasoning, find and fix its errors; use the internet to search, communicate, work and
evaluate the credibility of the data; collet, process, present the data and information with the
correct purpose using various software or other services on the internet to solve the problems in
daily life.

These can be done by systematically follow the working processes; solve the problems
using logical reasoning; design the program by writing the message or the flowchart; design and
write the program that is verified to cover all the conditions; check the processes step by step
when there is an error and fix it to achieve the determined result; practice finding the errors from
other people’s program; use the software to write the program in Scratch, logo.

These are for the students to realize and appreciate the usage of the internet in
communication and working; safely and mannerly use the information technology; understand the rights and duties of oneself; respect the rights of others; notify related people when seeing
inappropriate information or people; work with enthusiasm and punctuality; have a positive attitude in working; have appropriate working habits, morals, ethics and appropriate value.
